YAY for Christmas! It has surely changed since being a kid, when everything was a surprise and totally magical. It still has that magic to me and warms my heart. I am a HUGE fan of giving and I love making my family happy by giving them things. I got the bulk of my shopping done last Friday which should make things even more enjoyable and less stressful. I am normally totally last minute. I feel like I can just relax and enjoy this beautiful season. I am so glad I'm getting to go home and see my family!!! This is the first time we'll all be together since.... well you know we've never all been together. That is weird. Most all of us were together at my wedding (3 1/2 years ago) except DM. It's hard getting older and seeing family less. I've been totally blessed the past two years getting to see my family quite a bit. After BL is two and we'll have to pay for his ticket too it will be a lot harder. But back to happy Christmas thoughts... I can't believe this time of year is already here but I am so happy it is!! I decided yesterday I want to start a new family tradition. I don't know quite how everything is going to work but basically I want my kids to donate some of their old toys on/before/around Christmas. Maybe one for everyone they want/get? We'll see. I'm thinking it will be good when they're older to go and actually give it to someone who really needs it. I think it will be good for them to see and keep things in perspective and not get so greedy and materialistic. It's so cool to be able to start family traditions of our own! We'll see how things go! Merry Christmas!

I'm so excited. The house is going to be busting at the seams, but it is going to be so wonderful! Good plans on the donating toys. I want to do something like that too--when Glitter will get it. :)
29 days!
That's a totally genious two fold idea. The first amazing gift of giving and instilling that charitable trait in your already sweet little boy.
The second slightly less well known is ridding yourself of toys that have been "put out to pasture"
You do rock
I love that idea about the toys - I might borrow it :)
I love family traditions that you can start whenever you want cause you're in charge. And I'm super excited everyone will be here!
Was last year really his first Christmas? That's weird that it was Glitter's too.
I do this with my kids! We have a family home evening early december and talk to them about why we give to others. We ask them to think about what toys they would like to give away. The next week, we gather them all together and get them ready to be donated. This year we are taking them to the REACH shelter so that the kids who are staying at the shelter with their moms will have toys to play with.
I want so much for my kids not to get selfish and think they are the most important thing about Christmas... it isn't all about the toys and how much they get. They can give too.
I'm so glad you get to be with all your family this year. Family is so fun!
It's interesting that while we still have our selfish bouts, sharing and giving, in our slightly more mature years, is very much not an issue.
Does this make sense?
GM-I'm a seamstress I can fix the seams. Gonna be fun and crazy at the same time.
PK-yes if you don't get rid of things there is no room for the new and changing things!?*
Christmas * the memories are the best you don't really remember what or how much you got but the spirit of it all. And we did have a lot of fun at Christmas. I think surprizes and the wonder are a lot of fun and we ought to have a bunch of it this year
I love your blog!! So cute! Check out my family blog... bmhemming.blogspot.com

I miss you come back
Well it looks like you've really taken the church stance on preparedness this year! :)
